Reform UK leader retains parliamentary seat with 22,239 votes as satirical candidate Count Binface secures second place in record 34-candidate contest.

CLACTON-ON-SEA / LONDON: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has won the Clacton by-election, securing 22,239 votes (63.3%) to retain his seat in the House of Commons following a unprecedented contest.

The by-election was triggered in July after Farage vacated his parliamentary seat amid heightened scrutiny from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards over a £5 million donation received from a cryptocurrency tycoon. With major UK political parties—including Labour, the Conservatives, and the Liberal Democrats—choosing not to field candidates in protest, satirical candidate Count Binface emerged as his primary challenger.

Count Binface, an intergalactic space warrior persona portrayed by comedian Jonathan Harvey, finished in second place with 9,455 votes (26.9%). The ballot featured a record-breaking total of 34 candidates, predominantly made up of independent contenders and fringe political groups. Turnout for the coastal constituency was recorded at 44.4%.

Farage did not attend the official count at the Clacton Leisure Centre, citing security advice from local police regarding potential disruptions, and instead addressed supporters at a separate party event in Essex. Parliamentary authorities indicated that the standards investigation into Farage's financial disclosures is set to resume following his re-election.
