Two people were killed and 16 injured after a missile strike hit Russia’s Belgorod region, damaging commercial facilities and Ozon’s logistics infrastructure, according to Russian authorities.
Belgorod, Russia: A missile strike on Russia’s western Belgorod region has killed two people and injured 16 others, according to regional authorities. The attack also caused damage to commercial facilities, including sites operated by Russian e-commerce company Ozon.
The strike took place in Belgorod, a region bordering Ukraine, amid continued fighting between Russia and Ukraine. Russian officials attributed the attack to Ukrainian forces, although the claim could not be independently verified.
Commercial Facilities Damaged
According to regional authorities, the attack damaged commercial infrastructure and sparked fires across several warehouses. Emergency services were deployed to deal with the fires and assess the extent of the destruction.
Ozon, one of Russia’s largest online marketplaces, said that its logistics infrastructure in the area was affected. The company reported damage to a logistics hub and sorting facility following the strike.
The facilities are part of the wider logistics network used to process and distribute online orders across the region.
Two Killed, 16 Injured
The acting governor of Belgorod said that two people died in the attack, while 16 others were injured. Emergency teams were involved in rescue and recovery operations following the strike.
Authorities also reported damage to buildings and vehicles in the affected area. Further assessments were being carried out to determine the full scale of the damage.
Attack Comes Amid Escalating Conflict
Belgorod has frequently come under attack during Russia’s war with Ukraine because of its location close to the Ukrainian border. The region has experienced missile, drone and artillery strikes during the conflict.
Russia and Ukraine have continued to target military and infrastructure-related sites while also reporting attacks on civilian and commercial areas. Both sides regularly accuse the other of carrying out strikes that cause civilian casualties.
In this latest incident, Russian officials blamed Ukraine for the Belgorod missile strike. Ukraine had not independently confirmed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting.
The incident highlights the continuing risks faced by communities and businesses in Russia’s border regions as the conflict enters another phase of intensified attacks.
