India has reiterated that peace and tranquility along the India-China border remain essential to the overall development of bilateral relations.

In discussions with the Chinese side, India has consistently emphasised that issues concerning the border areas are of the highest importance and that maintaining peace and stability along the frontier is a key priority.

The position was reiterated during the 36th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC), held on August 6, 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides held frank discussions and reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Indian side again underlined that maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential for the continued development of bilateral ties.

India has also maintained that the overall state of affairs along the border has a direct bearing on the broader relationship between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to continue using established mechanisms to address outstanding issues and prevent misunderstandings or miscalculations along the LAC.

These mechanisms include diplomatic and military channels, the WMCC, local commander-level meetings and other agreed arrangements between the two countries.

The latest discussions come as India and China continue efforts to manage outstanding border issues and maintain stability along the frontier through dialogue and existing communication mechanisms.
